In England & Wales during 2020-21, there were almost 12,000 fires which led to more than 700 casualties. Fire is one of the most devastating risks to your business, with the potential to create huge losses in production, profits & physical assets, as well as detrimentally affecting staff morale & your business reputation. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a number of responsibilities on employers to ensure everything reasonably practicable is done to reduce the risk of fires in their premises, and to ensure that swift evacuation can be achieved should a fire break out. Such duties include having a suitable & sufficient Fire Risk Assessment completed for the premises (your insurers will expect one of these to be completed & regularly reviewed), ensuring suitable fire detection & extinguishing equipment is provided in the workplace, and that all staff have received adequate fire safety training.
