Work at Height

Overview

Falls from height remain the greatest cause of workplace fatalities and therefore it is vital to ensure that all employees required to work at height are competent to do so, fully aware of the risks & safe working methods of work to be followed to minimise the risk & severity of falls.

This half-day course is designed to raise learners’ awareness of the risks of working at height, the proper use of various work at height equipment, and measures to minimise the risk of falls from height, or to reduce the severity of the effects from falls.

This course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative location, for up to 12 learners.

Goals

On completion of the course, all candidates will understand:

  • Dangers associated with working at height

  • Employers & employees responsibilities for health & safety

  • Preparation of suitable & sufficient working at height risk assessments using the hierarchy of control

  • Proper use of a range of equipment for safe working at height and fall arrest

  • Health & safety law

  • Definitions of working at height

  • Work at Height Regulations 2005

  • Employers & employees duties

  • Work at height risk assessments

  • Hierarchy of control

  • Scaffolding

  • Ladders & stepladders

  • Mobile towers

  • Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWP)

  • Fall arrest equipment

  • Good & bad practice

Assessment

Assessment of the Work at Height Course is via a series of open and multiple-choice written questions. The written assessment consists of straightforward questions, though learners will be required to have at least a basic knowledge of English.

Learners who complete the course & are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate which is valid for three years.
