Student First Aid
Overview
To provide the next generation with vital life-saving skills, the government have introduced mandatory basic first aid training as part of the curriculum for all state-funded secondary schools in England. This 3-hour training course is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to respond to various first aid emergencies, including how to do CPR, safely use an AED, and deal with conditions such as choking, head injuries, broken bones and controlling bleeding.
The course can be delivered at your school for up to 12 learners per session.
This course is of a practical nature therefore students will need to be able to get to the floor unaided and also demonstrate all practical elements of assessments on their own.
Goals
On completion of the course, all candidates will understand:
Basic treatment for common injuries
A range of life-saving skills, including how to administer CPR
How to safely use defibrillators and recognise when one may be needed
Agenda
The course will include sessions on:
What is first aid?
Primary survey
Recovery position
Resuscitation & safe use of AEDs
Choking
Common injuries
Assessment
Assessment will be carried out through observation of a range of practical skills which the student will be required to demonstrate. The practical elements of the assessment are relatively straightforward, though there is a requirement for students to be fit and healthy enough to complete tasks such as CPR.
Learners will also be required to successfully pass a written multiple-choice question paper.
Students who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are issued with a certificate which is valid for three years.
