Principles of Safeguarding
and Protecting Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults
Overview
This 1-day course is designed for learners who have contact with children, young people or vulnerable adults in their working environment, or voluntary work. The course provides learners with an awareness and sensitivity to safeguarding, enabling them to identify issues and understand the importance of concerns being reports and acted upon appropriately.
This Level 3 award is regulated by Ofqual and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
The course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 12 learners. This qualification is available to learners aged 18 and over only.
Goals
On completion of the course, all learners will understand:
Key areas of legislation in the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults
How practitioners can protect themselves from allegations or complaints within their everyday professional practice
Understand & recognise the characteristics of differing forms of abuse
Understand how concerns are reported and how to respond to disclosures of abuse

Reporting safeguarding concerns
Assessment
Assessment on the Awareness of Safeguarding course is via written paper including open and multiple-choice questions. Learners must successfully pass the written assessment to be awarded the qualification.
The qualification does not have an expiry date, though refresher training is recommended to keep up to date with changes to policies, procedures and new legislation.
