Forestry First Aid (+F)

Overview

This course has been designed to provide learners the skills, knowledge & competence to approach emergency first aid situations in a forestry or agricultural environment. This course can be delivered as a standalone qualification, or combined with an Emergency First Aid at Work, or First Aid at Work qualification, and will enable learners to meet the requirements of the Forestry Commission First Aid at Work Policy.

The course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 12 learners.

This course is of a practical nature therefore casual clothes should be worn (we recommend trousers).

Goals

On completion of the course, all candidates will understand:

  • How to plan for first aid emergencies when help is more than 30 minutes away

  • The control of catastrophic bleeding with direct pressure, tourniquets or haemostatic dressings

  • Managing casualties suffering from hypovolaemic shock

  • First aid for crush injuries

  • Managing casualties affected by hypothermia

  • Recognition & first aid for Lyme Disease

Agenda

The course will include sessions on:

  • Emergency planning

  • Remote medical assistance

  • Catastrophic bleeding control

  • Crush injuries

  • Effects of extreme cold

  • Lyme disease

Assessment

Assessment will be carried out through a combination of practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge & practical skills. During the practical assessments, the learner will be asked supporting questions by the trainer/assessor.

Students who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are issued with a certificate which is valid for three years.
