Emergency Resuscitation & Safe Use of an AED
Overview
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are now widely available in public spaces and workplaces across the UK, significantly increasing the likelihood of survival of casualties suffering cardiac arrest, where qualified personnel are available to operate them. This half-day course will provide learners the skills and knowledge to recognise and manage a casualty suffering with cardiac arrest, and to respond quickly, calmly and confidently.
This course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 12 learners.
The course is of a practical nature therefore casual clothes should be worn (we recommend trousers).
We recommended that all first aiders complete a half-day refresher annually.
Goals
On completion of the course, all candidates will understand:
Management of an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
Management of an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Agenda
The course will include sessions on:
Primary survey
Recovery position
Resuscitation of an adult and/or child (CPR)
Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Assessment
Certification of the Emergency Resus & AED Course is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the student.
Assessment will be through a combination of practical scenarios, where learners will be required to demonstrate their knowledge & practical skills, and a short written assessment. Due to the nature of the practical elements, learners must have a basic level of fitness and physically fit enough to complete simple physical tasks, such as CPR. The written assessment consists of straightforward questions, though learners will be required to have at least a basic knowledge of English.
Students who complete the course and are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate which is valid for three years.
We strongly recommend that all first aiders complete a half-day refresher course annually.
