Catastrophic Bleeding Control

Overview

This half-day course is ideally suited to first aiders working in high-risk environments where there is a greater likelihood of incidents and accidents leading to serious injury. Learners will gain vital knowledge on how to effectively manage catastrophic bleeding injuries, including the inherent dangers associated with the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings.

The course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 16 learners.

This course is of a practical nature therefore casual clothes should be worn (we recommend trousers).

Agenda

The course will include sessions on:

  • Appropriate equipment

  • Primary survey

  • Catastrophic bleeding

  • Haemostatic dressings

  • Tourniquets

  • Top-to-toe survey

  • Environmental issues

  • Hand-over to the emergency services

Assessment

Whilst there is no formal assessment as part of this training course, the trainer will complete ongoing practical assessments of learners’ progress and will issue an attendance certificate on successful completion of the course.
