Awareness of Safeguarding
Overview
This half-day course is ideal for either professionals with caring responsibilities for young children, or vulnerable adults, but is equally applicable to those who volunteer their time to community events, children’s sports groups, or other activities bringing them into contact with children or adults at risk.
The course provides learners with the knowledge to identify a safeguarding concern, record a disclosure, and report to an appropriate person.
This Level 1 award is regulated by Ofqual and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
The course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 16 learners.
Goals
On completion of the course, all learners will understand:
What safeguarding is & key areas of legislation
Who within organisations has responsibilities for safeguarding
Differing types of abuse & possible indicators
What action to take if a safeguarding concern arises

Safeguarding legislation & guidance
Roles & responsibilities
Abuse & neglect
Identifying concerns & disclosure
Making judgements
Reporting safeguarding concerns
Assessment
Assessment on the Awareness of Safeguarding course is via written paper including open and multiple-choice questions. Learners must successfully pass the written assessment to be awarded the qualification.
The qualification does not have an expiry date, though refresher training is recommended to keep up to date with changes to policies, procedures and new legislation.
