Awareness of Challenging Behaviours

Overview

This half-day course is designed for learners who have contact with children, young people or vulnerable adults in their working environment, or voluntary work. The course provides an awareness of various challenging behaviours, root causes or triggers for these behaviours and practical steps in beginning to develop positive behaviour strategies.

The course can be delivered at your premises, or an alternative venue, for up to 12 learners.

Goals

On completion of the course, all learners will understand:

  • Differing types of challenging behaviour and how this can exhibit in children, young people or vulnerable adults

  • The function of challenging behaviour & the range of possible triggers which can lead to it

  • The various stages of behaviour & appropriate responses to these

  • Developing & implementing a positive behaviour strategy

The course will include sessions on:

  • What is challenging behaviour?

  • Understanding why it is happening

  • Identifying triggers & antecedents

  • Stages of behaviour

  • Functional assessments

  • Positive Behaviour Support plans
